USS Missouri on First Deployment!
Good News and Bad News from Groton… First the good news, the U.S.S. Missouri (SSN-780) will deploy on her first operational deployment. She has advanced in her training to the point that the Navy moved up her deployment to this month and she is anticipated to be out for approximately six months. Her operational readiness is due in no small part to the hard work of the crew and the leadership of command. We wish her all the best and smooth sailing. Please keep Commander Luckett and all his crew in your thoughts and prayers. Now for the Bad News, Commander Jennifer Cragg is leaving her billet as Public Affairs Officer for SubRon2 and has been reassigned to the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). Navy Base Deputy Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Vice Admiral Michelle Howard, wanted to remember her stay at the “Missouri House” during her recent tenure as the DC for USFFC. Commander Tim Rexrode, former Captain of the U.S.S. Missouri (SSN-780) contacted Ward Cook, U.S.S. Missouri Commissioning Committee to assist Admiral Howard’s staff in locating some mementos for the Missouri House…after talking to Captain Mike Badorf, Executive Assistant to VADM Howard, it was determined that what they needed was copy of the U.S.S. Missouri (SSN-780) Commissioning Program. Clifton D. Gray of Plainfield, Illinois very graciously donated his copy of the Commissioning Program for the Admiral’s memento (See following picture – courtesy of Capt. Badorf). USS Missouri Galley Artwork Designer Visits Boat GROTON, Conn. (NNS) -- Jeffrey Goddard, a graphic designer from Toronto, Canada visited the Virginia-class attack submarine USS Missouri (SSN 780) March 30, where his artwork is featured in the boat's galley. The "Mo' Blues & BBQ" logo is prominently displayed at the start of the food line as well as on all the shirts of the culinary specialists who work in the Virginia-class submarine's galley. "It's a hobby and I really enjoy it," said Goddard. "The U.S. Navy is so generous, you call someone and they try to help out. I'm really impressed." To read the entire article Click Here. GROTON, Conn. - Virginia-Class attack submarine USS Missouri (SSN 780), held a change of command ceremony aboard the submarine at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton April 20. Cmdr. Mike Luckett relieved Cmdr. Tim Rexrode during the time-honored ceremony. "Today is about the Missouri officers and crew because they are the ones actually did everything over the past three years," said Rexrode. Cmdr. Luckett, from Banning, California, graduated with distinction from United States Naval Academy in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture. At sea, Luckett has served as a Division Officer onboard USS Jefferson City (SSN 759), home ported in San Diego, California; as Engineer Officer of USS Houston (SSN 713), home ported in Bremerton, Washington and Apra Harbor, Guam; as Executive Officer of USS Pennsylvania (Gold) (SSBN 735) home ported in Bangor, Washington; and as Commanding Officer of USS Missouri (SSN 780), home ported in Groton, CT, since April 2012. The eight USS Missouri (SSN 780) Sailors took voluntary leave to assist their namesake state returned to Groton June 8, 2011. To officially thank them for their service, Kansas City Mayor Sly James and several city council members met the Sailors at the Kansas City International Airport to thank them for their efforts to assist the residents of Joplin. As you go through life, you meet and/or come into contact with people who always come through for you. Commander Jennifer Cragg is one those “beautiful” people that although you have never met, you will always remember her professionalism and her ‘can-do’ attitude that makes our Navy work. Over the past three years, she has always been of great assistance to the Commissioning Committee and has graciously allowed her press releases to be used on this website. For that, we will always be grateful. As her phone message said…’I hope you have a great NAVY day.’….I hope and pray that she has a lot of great NAVY days ahead of her.
